The market showed a mixed response during the week. Price in Vietnam and Sri Lanka increased; while in India and Sarawak decreased. In Indonesia (Lampung and Bangka) the prices were reported stable. In dollar terms however, the local price decreased marginally, due to a weakening of Indonesian Rupiah against US Dollar.
Local market keeps firming in the short run since last two weeks. However, the cover demands from exporters could be eased a little bit due to Sep deliveries were done, and they would have another couple of weeks ahead for Oct covers. Additionally, some covers from Brazilian cheaper levels are on the way. Buyers are heading to a bear market whereas local sellers/farmers are holding tightly their stocks...
Market slightly comes down since last week as more stock holders were offering/selling out. Local fluctuations are mostly impacted by Chinese trades whereas other exports are stable. Also there are arrivals of Brazilian peppers earlier covered at lower prices that subdued the local prices.
Marker is showing a high tongue today since local prices are ranging VND57,000-60,000 per kg. Particularly VND57,000/kg in Dong Nai & Gia Lai, VND58,000/kg in DakNong & DakLak, VND59,000/kg in Binh Phuoc, VND60,000/kg in Ba Ria Vung Tau. In general, local price has increased VND3,000 per kg in comparison with last week opening.
The market showed a mixed response during the week. In India the price decreased further after experiencing increase in August influenced by flood incident in Kerala. In Sarawak, the price also decreased. In Lampung, Bangka and Sri Lanka, the prices were reported to remain stable while in Viet Nam the price of black pepper has shown an increasing trend locally. According to Vietnamese MARD (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), pepper price trend from Vietnam is paralleled down ward with the global market and hardly to be restored during end 2018. Average price has been reduced 60% from Jan to Aug and likely hit the production costs. Farmers are trying to resist and narrower their size to reduce costs.
